Locum Immigration Lawyer

Two immigration solicitors are urgently required to work with one of the nations leading Judicial Review Teams. This is a temporary role, with an immediate start and up to11 months in length.

This role has a very fast turnover of cases. The work is diverse covering public law, human rights and EC law. In addition it is often high profile. Lawyers are responsible for conducting their own allocated casework under the supervision of a more senior lawyer. They will be required to give prompt legal and practical advice to the client at all stages of the proceedings, to instruct Counsel as appropriate and to work to tight deadlines while remaining alert to wider policy issues.

We are looking for bright, adaptable candidates with transferable skills who can learn quickly. The work requires good legal and organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure. It is often necessary to adapt existing working practices to meet new legislative or procedural initiatives so flexibility is essential. IT and word processing skills are also required.

Criteria

2:1 Degree or better in an academic subject.
If non-law Degree, commendation or similar on the conversion course.
Evidence of relevant work experience, i.e. working in own right, whether casework or transactional, with direct client contact. Evidence supporting an ability to absorb complex areas of law efficiently and effectively, to work under pressure and to use initiative.
If UK qualified we would be looking for an interest in public law /policy, though not necessarily immigration.
If non-UK qualified to have worked in Government within own jurisdiction would be advantageous and an understanding of the wider policy context. Also, an appreciation of the distinct Human Rights framework within the UK/Europe.
